Thanks, and thanks for faving this too Yes, I have done a quick portrait in profile of Vergere, it's wayyy back in my gallery somewhere. I would like to redo it however, in digital medium next time. At present I am working on a large piece for the guys and girls over at theforce.net, but it would be nice to revisit Vergere, watch this space!
Thanks, this is still one of my fave pieces I did, using the old version of painter. Painter X is superb, but lacks some of the old brushes I really loved Especially the ones that helped me in creating the soft fabric and feathers!
Ok, first of all, this is definitley my new desktop background lol.
The ritual markings on Elan are great, such fine detailed work there. The hair on both her and Vergere is also impressive. I also really love the design you went with for Elan's garment. But what really fascinates me- and I don't know if this was intentional or not- is the perception of the image. I am referring to the fact that, like in the books, when Vergere's character is introduced, and most of the way through the series until a certain point, Vergere is always lurking, always in the background. In the Vong culture, she was considered insignificant, almost amusing. But as those of us who have read the series know, Vergere's subtley was a blanket for her strong presence in the force, and her huge influence she could have on people... especially a certain Solo kid. In the image, Elan jumps out at you first- very detailed, very elegant, very bold. Then your eye drifts to the back and you say, "and who is this interesting, yet insignificant little one here?" If it was intentional, it was genius. Plus I love the look on her face, partially giving that "Vergere smile" which intrigues Luke Skywalker, frustrates Jacen Solo, and infuriates Nom Anor.
"Ok, first of all, this is definitley my new desktop background lol." <---?!?!! wow ty!
I did intend Vergere to be a subtle - as subtle as a fosh coud possibly be anyway - but constant presence, she is a bit of a lurker throughout the novels. I'm glad you like her facelift too, since we have had a few more up close pics of her i've tried to incorperate some of the aspects seen in those pics into this one, she definitely has that elusive smile, she's persistently smug without appearing overly confident.
Wow... All the time you put in really shows up wonderfully here--a fabulous piece! I love the clothing/drapery--gorgeous!--and the surroundings are so deliciously "organic," just as they would be! This is one of the first fanarts I've ever seen of Vergere--you were faithful to her proart portrayals, but still gave her a wonderful, individual touch! A wonderful depiction of these two very enigmatic characters!
Thanks very much Falcon Fan I always enjoy your in-depth comments. I actually gave Vergere a bit of a face-lift from how I originally sketched her in the line art, I must have redone the space around her eyes multiple times lol - even fosh can't get enough of that botox
The colors, textures and shading are spot on, really good job. Especially Vergere's hair looks stunning in full res! The only and only tidbit would be the kinda blurry background, but it doesn't disturb the general vibe of the image.
And heh, it's neat to see some hot Vong for a change. They're usually rather creepy.^^
Thanks Corran Fett! And hey, YV can be hot when they want to be Well, at least Elan was always discribed that way lol. I didn't want to overburden the background with too much detail, so I left it somewhat soft on the focus. Thanks again!
She hasn't, but thanks for clarifying hehe. It must be the weather here that's inspired it, it's freezing! Thankyou, and lol maguppies? That's a new one on me *adds it to the dictionary of random names for bit's and pieces* The gown took the longest to colour, but i'm pleased with how it turned out. Thanks again!
Thank you VC And yes there is a hint of that portrayed here, with purpose too I always thought that "Do you mean that Vergere is something more than a companion?" "She is that, as well" conversation implied a little more than was let on
Vergere took an entire evening to do layer by layer, I don't think the details show up quite like I wanted them to on this size, the original is up for download though And wing art eh? Perhaps in blood
