Learn to appreciate me. by blue-but-beautiful Learn to appreciate me. by blue-but-beautiful
This is a request art for Sector C- 1138 who hails from the website world of star wars.

He requested a picture of his fave slave girl and this rather grotesque and grim crimelord, Jabba.

This took quite a few weeks of work on and off, and was rendered using photoshop and painter x.

All things SW are (c) of Yun-Lucas.

I didn't sketch it, the recipient didn't want her to be wearing a chain if I recall right. My reference came from a third party, who wanted me to use the pose of a cosplayer and a model of Jabba. The woman in the photo wasn't wearing a chain either.

**is giggling over your "boredom with realism" **

:giggle:

I suppose comic styles offer more...flexibility...? :) Either way, this is wonderful! I completely agree with the comment above about Leia's rigid pose--who wouldn't be?! lol! And that you've curved Jabba's tail around her legs gives it an even more menacing feel...eesh! Great work with the colors--straight out of the film! I'll bet the requester was delighted with this!

LOL oh yes, I got very bored with realism, only to go back to it a short while ago *d'oh!* never happy, thats me  (just ask my fiance about rearranging the furniture around my house at 3am  )

Comic style is certainly a lot more flexible, it's also the best way I found to start off drawing figures. I was hopeless at sketching people at 15, got very annoyed with myself and looked up a bunch of tutorials and hey-presto, gave it a go and ended up loving this style of drawing.

The requester seemed pretty pleased with it, I have no idea what he's done with it since, he seems to have departed the site where I met him, but he seemed happy all the same :)
The colours I sourced from the photos taken of the model posed with a life size Jabba at one of the celebration events :)

Thanks!

"Comic style is certainly a lot more flexible, it's also the best way I found to start off drawing figures."

I agree with you there: the "gesture-type" approach to figure drawing is a lot easier, and most comic styles use that or something similar. Realism DOES have it's uses, though! ;)

"The requester seemed pretty pleased with it, I have no idea what he's done with it since, he seems to have departed the site where I met him"

Yeah--they do that sometimes! Then we never really know what happens to the artwork from there... **shrugs** It's still a terrific illustration!

The tank thing was an afterthought, but I rather like it now :)

Love the colors and the Jabba is beautiful. I guess only a Star Wars fan could understand that! Very nice picture. I love the scowl look on the Girls face and as mentioned before the little tasty morsel she is holding adds a nice touch. I think I would have had her slipping him an arrow dart poison tree frog but as big as Jabba is that would probably have little effect upon him!..Great picture!

lol oh if I knew it was going to cause this much curiosity I would have given it a name  Some form of tasty weed, I think I mentioned seaweed, because it must be a delicacy on a world like Tatooine ;)

P.S- the bunny still scares me.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I used to have this rabbit that was basically evil incarnate, it would attack my dogs and just about anyone who walked into the garden. That was one evil bunny with a deceptively innocent name! I still have a scar on my left hand from where it bit me once. Eeeebil!

Thank you, and what is she holding? (This might be a good time to point out, she isn't actually modeled on Carrie Fisher's Leia, but a fan who loves to go to events as Slave Leia :) ) I am not quite sure, some hideous little delicacy, looks a bit like seaweed....suppose that would be a rare delicacy on Tatooine!

lol no need to apologize, I wouldn't say I went at this with an entirely serious mind myself hehe! When I was little, the first film my dad took me to see was ROTJ and as soon as Jabba appeared on screen I burst into hysterical laughter that had the whole auditorium laughing (I was 1) I guess Hutt's have that effect on people!

Thanks :) I have somehow adopted this style over the years, cutting edge comics with a twist I suppose, I got a bit bored with realism. I was given a very good, clear refference pic for Leia, that was the only part of the piece I was not allowed to change, so I kind of had to work around that, hehe.

*whispers* It's a little known fact, but yes I am, I am trying to concentrate more on commissions and prints to pay for my wedding, but I am happy to take requests too. Interested in something perhaps?
